Telling the Complex Story of the Impact of Mass Surveillance on Communities of Color
Over the last seven years we have studied the complex surveillance state being built all around us, especially focused on Muslim communities, and communities of color more broadly. We worked in Oakland and San Diego through Muslim led community organizing tied to media strategies to raise awareness about surveillance in the communities most targeted. In both cases, we have worked to help pass some of the strongest surveillance ordinances in the United States. In San Diego, we also produced our short film, “The All Seeing Eyes of San Diego Surveillance,” as an explainer style video to raise awareness about this very complex issue that was passed as green tech, but in reality, had deeply disturbing surveillance tech built-in.
